This batch starts in
Counting down to Thu 12 Nov 2026, 17:30. When it hits zero, this batch is in session.
Twelve students.
Four pianos. One exam.
A group course for pianists who have passed Grade 2 (or play at that level) and want Grade 3 without the loneliness of solo lessons. Twelve students, four pianos, headphones for individual practice and Ruth moving between you.
Every session follows the same steady rhythm: scales and arpeggios together, ten minutes of sight-reading at your own pace, then work on the three exam pieces. Ruth hears everyone play every week — nobody hides at the back.
The exam itself is optional and booked separately, but most students sit it: Ruth's Grade 3 groups have passed at 100% for four years running. A practice plan is set each week and takes about twenty minutes a day.
How the
course runs
Same shape every week: teaching first, then practice with the teacher close by. Open a block to see what you will do — and what you leave with.
Assessment by playing, not by test: Ruth hears your current pieces, checks posture and reading, and sets your personal scale list. The group pieces are chosen together.
You leave with: your scale list and a practice plan that fits your week.
The full Grade 3 scale set in small daily doses, plus the fingering logic that makes them stick. Sight-reading starts — two pieces a session, no stopping allowed.
You leave with: half the scale set, secure at tempo.
One exam piece at a time: notes, then shape, then character. Group listening sessions where students play to each other — the friendliest possible audience practice.
You leave with: all three pieces note-secure, one performance-ready.
Clap-back, sing-back and talking about music in exam format, plus the fine print: pedalling, dynamics, and recovering gracefully from mistakes.
You leave with: a full aural-test run with Ruth's notes.
Two complete mock exams under real conditions — waiting room, examiner script, no second chances. Written feedback on every element within three days.
You leave with: two marked mock exams and a fix-list for the final week.
A final playing-through for families and friends in Room 4. Certificates, next steps, and Grade 4 taster pieces for anyone continuing.
You leave with: a performance in front of a real audience.

Your teacher
Ruth Ellery
Ruth played piano professionally for fifteen years, including a decade with a regional orchestra, before swapping the concert hall for the teaching room. She has prepared more than 300 students for graded piano exams.
Her groups are capped at twelve and run on a steady rhythm: scales, sight-reading, then the piece itself. Students describe her lessons as calm and funny in equal measure — the exam results suggest both help.
